Where does mindset come from?
Your mindset has developed over your lifetime. It is based on your upbringing, your culture, your experiences, and your education. Your beliefs about success, money, and yourself stem from the way you were raised and the world around you. But the good news is that you can change the stories you tell yourself and your mindset. Rewrite the stories you tell yourself if they don’t serve you. The thoughts and beliefs that you have shaped your habits and your habits create your success.
There are 2 kinds of mindset
According to the book Mindset by Carol Dweck, there are two types of mindset: fixed and growth. Someone with a fixed mindset believes they will never be smarter or better than they are right now. A fixed mindset often creates the desire to look smart which means a person with a fixed mindset tends to avoid challenges. They also feel threatened by the success of others and easily get defensive. The worst part about a fixed mindset is that people may ignore useful feedback since they see it in a negative light.
People with a growth mindset understand that intelligence can be developed. The belief that you can change and improve yourself over time with intentional action is based on a growth mindset. People who have a desire to learn and embrace challenges have a growth mindset. They persist in the face of setbacks and see effort as a path to mastery.
So how do you see yourself? Do you have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset? If you are stuck in a fixed mindset, the good news is that you can change! Check out this episode to hear 5 steps you can take to change your mindset.
